Emanuel Quickley remains positive despite failed contract extension talks with Knicks

1 min read

New York Knicks guard Emanuel Quickley posted a positive message on social media after failing to reach an agreement on a rookie contract extension by Monday’s deadline.

“I’m excited to start the season and help the Knicks win,” Quickley wrote.” I’m grateful for the opportunity to play in New York and I’m looking forward to the future.”

Quickley was one of a handful of Class of 2020 players who failed to reach an agreement with a team by the deadline.14 players signed extensions, including Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball and Tyrese Halliburton.

Despite not receiving a new contract, Quickley has earned his place in the league. Last season, he averaged a career-high 14.9 points per game and shot 45 percent from the field, helping the Knicks to a 47-35 record.

Quickley will be a restricted free agent after this season. If he can improve his scoring numbers while maintaining his efficiency from last season, he will be a favorite on the free agent list next summer.

The Knicks are trying to make a name for themselves in the much-improved Eastern Conference. Quickley could force them to have to open their checkbook and play strong in 2023-24.
