Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp handed a debut to teenager defender Luke Chambers in the UEFA Europa League win over Toulouse at Anfield on Thursday evening.

Chambers played 67 minutes at left-back and was delighted to have achieved his lifelong dream of playing for the club.

“It’s unbelievable,” Chambers told TNT Sports. “I’ve dreamt of this moment since I was six years old. To top it off with a win, I’m lost for words.

“I loved every minute of it.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold captained Liverpool on the night and the England international recalled his own Reds debut seven years ago.

“I saw it was seven years yesterday since my debut,” Alexander-Arnold said. “I still know exactly how it feels, that excitement you work so hard for.

“He’s put in all the hard work, he’s shown himself. He’s been outstanding, he’s been in and around the team, on and off the pitch.

“He plays amazing football as well, so it’s amazing to see him out there. He’s got great potential.”

Reflecting on the words of praise from his captain, Chambers said: “I’ve come through the academy. Watching Trent come through it gives us academy lads a stepping stone to try and recreate it.”
